Our Process

Our Process

Handmade leather is a meticulous and labor-intensive process that involves several steps to transform raw animal hides into high-quality leather products.

  • Selecting the Hide: The first step is to carefully choose the animal hides based on their quality, texture, and thickness. We travel to several leather tanneries in the US and hand pick the best hides for our use. The most common hides we use are from cattle and bison.

  • Tanning: Tanning is the crucial step where the hide is transformed into leather. There are various tanning methods, but the most common ones are vegetable tanning and chrome tanning. Vegetable tanning involves using natural tannins found in plants, while chrome tanning uses chromium salts. Tanning agents penetrate the hide, making it more durable, flexible, and resistant to decay.

  • Cutting and Stitching: The leather is cut into the desired shapes and sizes for various products like bags, wallets, shoes, or belts. We then stitch and rivet the cut pieces together, using hand tools and techniques that we have honed for years, to create the final product.

  • Final Touches: Handmade leather goods are given final touches such as edge painting, embossing, or adding hardware like buckles or zippers. These details enhance the aesthetics and functionality of the leather product.

  • Quality Control: Before the products are ready for sale, they undergo a rigorous quality control process. This includes checking for any defects, ensuring proper stitching and alignment, and inspecting the overall craftsmanship.

Handmade leather production requires craftsmanship, attention to detail, and a commitment to preserving traditional techniques. This labor-intensive process results in unique, durable, and luxurious leather products that are appreciated for their beauty and longevity.
